Under the tutelage of OSI Group’s Chairman and CEO, Sheldon Lavin, OSI has successfully completed many key acquisitions of capital, subsidiaries, and companies in the food-related business sector.
OSI Group’s purchase of Baho food in August, 2016, added the Dutch food company to OSI Group’s European business line. It was this key acquisition that provided OSI with a much larger presence in Europe.
With the purchase of Baho Foods, the OSI Group inherited five subsidiaries, which consisted of processing plants located in Germany and the Netherlands. These five companies include Q Smart Life, Bakx Foods, Henri van de Bilt, Gelderland Frischwaren, and Vital Convenience, provided food services in Europe to 16 countries.
An additional purchase that OSI Group made in June, 2016, was the Tyson Food plant, which was located in Chicago, Illinois. The facility was procured by OSI Group for a $74 million dollar price tag. A spokesman for OSI group quipped that the 200,000-square-foot location, located in the Back of the Yards locale, is near OSI’s other Chicago facilities. This purchase was also considered a strategy to enable the new OSI infrastructure to facilitate continued business growth. OSI Group has attained impressive business milestones under Sheldon Levin. Lavin’s many years of experience in the food industry has helped OSI Group gained a lot of recognition and awards.
In December, 2016, one of OSI Group’s subsidiaries was awarded the Globe of Honour by the British Safety Council. The award focuses on corporate excellence in the area of environmental safety. In February of 2016, Sheldon Lavin received the Global Visionary Award by India’s Vision World Academy.
Sheldon Lavin earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in accounting and finance from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. Lavin also owned a finance-related, consulting firm, Sheldon Lavin and Associates, Inc. This consulting firm was located in downtown Chicago.
Lavin’s philanthropic efforts include supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which he has done so for over 25 years. Lavin is also a trustee and chairman of its capital campaign. He has also supported a multitude of other charities, including a role as President, and Director of the Sheba Foundation.
In 1970, Sheldon Lavin gained a repoire with Otto & Sons, Inc., a company that were predecessors to OSI Industries, LLC. OSI Group is currently headquartered in Aurora, Illinois. It is a privately held company with 65 facilities, which include work sites located in 17 countries.
